Today we had the opportunity to travel to a school in Coñaripe, a city near where we’ve been staying. We divided into groups and each group visited classes from 1st-8th grade. We presented Bible lessons, used colored beaded bracelets to share the Gospel, and were able to teach the children songs, some English, and Bible verses. After the lessons, a few from our team performed songs on instruments, and the entire team sang a couple of songs for the student body in the school atrium. Following the performance, we had an opportunity to engage in conversations with the students and administrators of the school who expressed their gratitude for our visit.
After a successful day at the school, we put on our ponchos and headed for a short but beautiful hike to the Mili Mili waterfall. Afterwards we returned to the camp to enjoy a favored Chilean dish called Completos which is a hot dog with avacado, diced tomatoes, mayonnaise, and other optional toppings.
To burn off a few calories, a few of us walked into town to explore and buy some souvenirs. Part of our group was able to talk with a couple of Mormon missionaries in town who were happy to meet with other Americans. In the evening we prepared more Salvation beaded bracelets and enjoyed a savory dish called “carne al jugo chilena,” which is similar to a pot roast and potatoes. To conclude our night, Mercy and Samuel led our team in a meaningful time of praise and worship.
